Our Group: Petra, Christy Darlene, Meredith

  1. (Petra) I looked at this week's assignment, what I am confused about is the video clips. It looks like we are supposed to get them from "Creative Commons". Are we just to come up with a topic and then download these clips and then put them together? For some reason I thought we were videotaping ourselves?
  2. (Darlene) I am not certain. Perhaps we will be able to get clarification during the Webinar on Wednesday. Dr. Abernathy seems to be quite easy to work with, and she is more than willing to clarify assignments. It does help to have the ability to converse with her!
  3. (Marisol) I have just watched your digital story and was amazed by your creative outlook. I really felt moved by the story and wanted to be the first to say that it was wonderful! It made me think about my father and brought back many feelings and emotions. Thank you!
  4. (Petra) Thank you so much Marisol. My grandma was very special to me.
  5. (Christy) I am under the assumption that we will be finding video clips from the web and put together in some kind of sequence. I am also assuming that this will be very similar to Assignment #1. I will be using Movie Maker as my video editing program. Any ideas on themes? All I can think about is summer break!!
  6. (Petra) I also downloaded Movie Maker. Summer Break sounds good. I was thinking on a tourist movie. I guess I am dreaming on going some where. Maybe an advertisement about a great vacation spot like Jamaica, lol. I would love to go there. I am getting ready to look at the websites like iTunes, etc. I guess we just need to jump in and see what happens.
  7. (Marisol) Movie Maker is great to work with. I like it somewhat better than photo story 3.
  8. (Petra)My biggest problem is getting a video clip, where are you guys getting that from?
  9. Petra) I think I finally found some video clips under United Streaming that I can download, and they are not illegal to download.
  10. (Christy) On the Plan part of the assignment, are you guys just writing down the order of what you are looking for in the video...
  11. (Petra) I guess just what I did to get this video together, it is a little confusing. I think it is mostly the idea of the video and all the material from the article "The Art of the Edit".
I also have a question. How do you make the video stop after the last clip. I have tried everything. It keeps going until the song is over. Any ideas???? I DO NOT like Movie Maker, it is not nice to me lol. Please look at my video, I am getting ready to import into this wiki.
  12. (Marisol) I used United Streaming as well for my video.. still making final touches and hopefully it will be uploaded by 12 midnight on Monday. Sorry about your issues with Movie Maker... What program did you use instead? It looks great!
  13. (Christy)...Petra, your video was great! You are doing a great job. I will be putting final touches on mine after this post. I have a problem...not really a problem, but I will be at the BEACH from Tuesday afternoon until Friday. I will be able to get my email, but not access net. email is iwsicnh@hotmail.com. I would like to discuss ideas for our PSA. It only needs to be 60 seconds long. What are some issues that would be reasonablly easy to find video on!?!?!?! Do we each turn in the same paper for the PSA assignment. We need to decide who is what and our issue. I will check the wiki before I leave on Tuesday and then after that I will check my email. I haven't had a vacation in 6 years so I REALLY need this, but I will help and do what ever you guys decide.
  14. (Petra) I did end up using Movie Maker. Thank you Marisol. What is your wiki address?
  15. (Petra) I will start looking at the new materials today. I still need to do some work on the discussion page.Have a great time on your vacation.
  16. (Marisol) http://perceptions.wikispaces.com/ this is my wiki address for everyone..
  17. (Petra) Marisol. I really like your digital story and what it is about, wonderful!!
  18. (Marisol) Is you group full or are you guys still needing another partner
  19. (Darlene) I think we must only have 4, but I asked Dr. A. if I could be on two projects because I have time and want the experience. She said okay, but if you can't find a group, I will let you have my spot. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP if you do not have a group so I can let Petra know.
  20. (Darlene) I just checked and Jennifer Coleman is still looking for someone to join her group. Check discussion board, week 3.
  21. (Petra) Marisol, did you find a group?
  22. (Darlene) If not, there are still postings on this weeks' discussion board .
  23. (Marisol) I am still waiting for a response from Jennifer. Thanks guys for your help.. Darlene, I really thank you for offering to be in two groups. I am really good at movie maker and enjoy editing and splitting clips. So if I do not get a response from Jennifer by tonight.. I could use your help. I will let you know....
  24. (Petra) Ask Dr. A to be in our group. Tell her you have tried and CAN NOT find anyone else.

Ok, here we go again: Let's find a topic!!!!

  1. (Petra) We need a topic: It only has to be 60 seconds long, include text, or graphic effects, cant be to difficult. I got so tired of Movie Maker and ADOBE (which my computer would not install), I downloaded Ulead. It looks really good. On Movie Maker, I even had a hard time getting the text on the correct slide. It just did not work like it said it would.

2. (Christy) I am open to any topic....we can do something with money. What age group are we going after? And, we need to decide who does what job? Has anyone email our Academic Coach to let her know who is all in the group? I will be leaving out of town for a few days, but I will have access to email. I will check the wiki Friday evening when I get home. Please email me if there is anything I can do. I haven't had a vacation in many, many years. I need this badly!
3. (Christy) Why is my license not showing up correctly on my wiki page? I know there is something I haven't clicked on, but I can't find it!!!
4. (Petra) What license Christy? Meredith texted me and had an idea: what about
pirating movies or songs. I am not sure how it would work, we could always get a little video of someone with handcuffs in a movie store, or what about teenache abstenace? On the way back from the lake we saw a sign that one in four teenagers has a STD.
5. (Christy) the creative common license....it is showing up in code at the bottom of my video, but not as yours? I don't know I will just leave it for now. Leaving for VACATION and my son's laptop just went out..Any topic will be great. I will check email tomorrow and I will see what you guys need me to do. Thanks
6. (Petra) I just copied and pasted that in there, and then deleted parts of it. We probably don't need to do that. I just was not sure about what to do with the license. Will you invite me to your wiki?
7. (Darlene) I like the pirating movies or songs. We have had so much emphasis on copyright law and giving proper credit. Plus, I think it could be "cute" as well as informative. However, I'm good with whatever the group wants to do.
8. (Darlene) I now have yahoo messenger, but don't know how to use it yet. My screen name is billyedarlene.
9. (Meredith) Oh MY GOODNESS....now that I am able to access it, I can comment. Sorry, I missed the meeting on Yahoo tonight. I will edit the video, Movie Maker became my friend last week. If we just have to gather videos and not have to actually video anything...I can look up videos about our topic and do voiceovers. Since all we have to do this week is the proposal, once we get a topic, I will work on the videos and shots this weekend. We can change all of it through the next 2 weeks, this is just a plan. All plans change once the videoing starts.
10. I am going to post the question on our dicussion board...Do we video tap real footage, or just use video clips that already exist and make a PSA?

We need to meet to discuss a topic: Does anyone have the yahoo messenger? Maybe we could come up with a time to all meet. My screen name is Petra703.
(Christy) - I have yahoo, but it won't let me sign on....I have it on my iphone, so if we talk using yahoo I can join in. My screen name is hairgirl74

Here is our topic:

  1. Pirating movies or songs: (Meredith) I like this one because it is what I know, there are a lot of videos on you tube about this. I just need to know for sure IF we are videoing or if we are just using existing video and doing voiceovers.
  2. Christy emailed and thought we could show a jail at the end of the video. (What about handcuffs lol)
  3. (Petra) If it is ok with you guys I would like to do some research and start writing a the narration about it. Meredith give me some ideas what you were thinking about?
  4. (Darlene) I LOVE our topic! I will be happy to do the voiceover or whatever needs to be done except adding the music. I can't seem to figure out how to import songs from my iTunes account...
  5. (Petra) I have been so busy all day today. I will try to work on the narration all day tomorrow and put it in the document so we can add and edit it. A friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer today. Please PRAY FOR HIM.
  6. (Darlene) My best friend was killed in a one car accident yesterday. She was an only child and is survived by only her 78 year old mother. Prayers for her also.
  7. (Petra) Oh Darlene I am so sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to her mother and you for all the pain I know you are going through. I will pray!! It puts all our little problems so far into the background.
  8. (Christy) Darlene, I have been trying to add music from iTunes to Movie Maker, but when I go to the iTunes folder it just shows the titles and no music. What is your issue with iTunes? I would like to figure it out.
  9. (Darlene) I have the same problem. I ran the mouse over the titles and it shows an MP4 extension. Maybe that's the problem. I also thought it could be because the music was purchased from Apple and maybe there is a copyright issue, but I also had music from cd's on iTunes that showed up the same way.

(Petra) Ok guys here is the narration. I know it is longer than a minute. We can add or subtract anything we need to. I guess it depends what is easy to videotape. I really did not know what you all wanted. Let's tweak it like we need it.

Narration:

Pay attention, piracy is bad news! You would not think about stealing music CD’s or movies from the store, so why is it ok to steal these items online? Yet, millions of computer literature Americans steal and trade music, movies and even computer programs through the internet and peer-to-peer file sharing.
One of the problems is that this new 21st century computer savvy generation has grown up thinking and dealing with technology in different ways. Having spent their lives surrounded with tools of the digital age, like iPods’, cell phones and video games, the concept of illegal pirating to them is nothing but sharing and trading amongst each other. After all, why buy an entire CD, if only one or two songs on it are good?
Most young people believe that pirating is OK, since it does not hurt anyone. Wrong! Every year it costs the economy billions of dollars, and thousands of jobs are lost due to this infringement of copyrights. Many anti-pirate software programs have been developed to help stop this crime; however, smart computer hackers have always been able to bypass them.
The fact remains pirating is a crime! Copyright laws prohibit unauthorized copies of any music, movies or other software. These laws protect the individuals and the value of their creative work. Violators of this law will be prosecuted! The Recording Industry Association of America (http://www.riaa.org/) has made it their goal to combat piracy, inform the public, and educate parents and young people about downloading illegal materials from the internet.
Remember, do not break the law, it has consequences.

(Darlene) Sounds good Petra. I just added a couple of question marks.

(Petra) What is next, who can videotape and write up some shots? Has anyone emailed Daphne about the members in our group?

(Christy) Ok guys, back from vacation. What is going on.....catch me up and I will do whatever is needed. How do we work this? Will we turn in one paper for all of us or 4 seperate papers. I am going to go thru everything tonite and see what all is needed. Please let me know what I need to do. Thanks for allowing me to take a little mini vacation.
(Petra) We need to come up with the shots for the video if you guys like the narration below, and of course than we need to edit it with the video editer and narrate it. I put the assignment on the bottom of this page, we can all turn in the same assignments for the weeks, but we all do need to turn them in. I cannot find my firewire for my camera, and of course I don't know how to use it either to transfer any video shots to the computer. Ohh so much fun!!!
(Darlene) Petra, I'll be glad to take some shots and write up some shots. My video skills are not great, but I can get some footage started if you would like me to.

(Meredith) I like the narrative. I will read the narrative over video clips for the assignment. I have pirating clips for my classes to watch, I can put them together and do the narrative. I am still on vacation until tomorrow. I will get on Sunday and work on this more, looking at the assignment etc. I have video clips of Metallica talking about pirating and how they shut down Napster in the 90's. Pirating music, random clips from FBI etc. I also have interviews with other musicians about pirating and what it does.

Thanks Petra for the script, it is good.
(Darlene) I think we need to video our own clips. You might check with Daphne to see if we can used downloaded clips.
(Petra) We do nee to shoot our own clips, but I don't think we need them until the next week. I think all we need is all the planning and shot ideas for this week.

(Christy) The narration is great. We can use digital pics too, right? I thought maybe we could show a collage of different artists who were involved in the movement against stealing (downoaded) songs. If not done yet I will email Daphne our group names. Please leave first and last name next time that you post. Do we have a title to our PSA? I was thinking we could incorporate a Pirate picture? IDK, just thinking about keeping everything on some kind of theme? What do y'all think?
(Christy) We need to decide who is what...unless y'all have and I missed it. (Director, scriptwriter....etc) I was thinking our purpose would be to deter society from participating in pirated software, music and songs and to inform society about the effects of piracy on the economy and law. Target audience will be pre-teens, teens and young adults. Program length is one minute.....costumes, sets, props, locations....to change in the coming weeks. I have a teenage son, I thought maybe I could video him downloading music, from his laptop and his cell phone. we can use that as a shot..or two! Let's see, one shot could be him laying across his bed in front of his laptop with his mp3 player beside him showing him dowmloading from itunes and another shot of him using his phone to download music to his phone. He is 16 and I was think if we could get video of a younger kid doing the same thing we could show these shots during the narration part that begins with "One of the problems" and ending with that paragraph. Should we (or can we) show news clips of the recession or a "fake" stock report when the narration talks about the effects on the economy. These are just ideas, let me know what I need to do. What ever shot list we decide upon for this week's assigment can change by week 5 we just have to record the changes on the assignment sheet.
(Darlene Jones) Christy ,that sounds good. I think you should definately take some shots of your son. You might even take some shots of him in a store picking up a cd, start to put it in his pocket/shirt/pants, shake his head "No" and put it back. We could put a "no" symbol or an X over the cd.

(Petra Hagan) I LOVE ALL YOUR IDEAS Christy. I still need to write the script outline, what do you guys think we show do on that. I guess I could make a list of the main points of the narration and may be the shopts.

Title: Lets brainstorm and come up with something quick. What about:

Pirating, Don't Do IT!, or
21st Century Pirats, or
Free may not be Cheap,

(Christy)*I love "21st Century Pirates"....maybe we can have a pirate head as the opening scene, with the title running across it.
(Darlene) I like "21st Century Pirates" also.
(Meredith) I love the 21st Century Pirates...and the Pirate at the opening scene...

Shotlist: (from Christy)

1. Teenager downloading music, from his laptop and his cell phone.
2. Teenager laying across his bed in front of his laptop with his mp3 player beside him showing him dowmloading from itunes and another shot of him using his phone to download music to his phone.
3. Shot of a younger kid doing the same thing we could show these shots during the narration part that begins with with "One of the problems" and ending with that paragraph.
we can have one shot of just downloaded cd's everywhere.....somehow make it multigenerational...just an idea
Shotlist ideas: (Petra Hagan)
4. Shot of a courthouse and the police department or even the jail. May be a final scene with a kid in hand cuffs.
5. Consumers bying music and movies at bestbuy store and and ending scene of the money(dollar signs)s they lose and a scene of a working employee that may lose his job.
6. Shot of a group of kids showing their CD's with written downloaded songs on them talking about the music and asking each other to make each other CD's.
7. Take a shot scene of the copyrights or pictures of anything we need to include.
(Meredith O'Bannion) Sorry, just got back in from vacation this afternoon. Spent some time with our 5 year old who was left behind and now I am back. I love the shot list.

(Petra)I don't know guys, we can change it all in the next two weeks, for know we just need to write it all up. As soon as you let me kinow how what you think the outline should include I will write it.

(Christy) I think that this shot list is good....we really need to just have something for turning in this week. If....and we will....change anything we just have to document it on the last assignment. I think this is all really good. I will be using everything on this page to fill out assignment #3 this week. I will send it to everyone on sunday evening.

(Petra) Thanks Christy!!! I hope you had a good time at your vacation. Any ideas about the outline? I can sure do the outline on the narration, I just was not sure if this included also the shots, kind of like storyboarding. I can write it up any which way and paste it on here. Christy you can than paste iit in the document. Let me know.

(Darlene) Petra, I think the shots need to be in the same order as the script so that each shot has its own "script." That can be the "storyboard." When we get the shots, we can manipulate them so that they flow in a natural order. I will be happy to do the narration and/or help write and edit the script.
(Meredith O'Bannion) The actual footage can be shot in any order and I will put it together and I can edit it..whatever ya'll need me to do. I think the shots of Christy's son will be great. We defintely need to use a teenager or two so we can hit that target. They will not listen to anyone much older than them if we are trying to make something. Maybe he can be our final critic. WHATEVER ya'll need me to do, please let me know. THANKS to all of you who have worked so hard on this while I was away also. I highly recommend Carmel to all of you, it was WONDERFUL!!!

(Petra) OK, here is the outline: Please tell me if this looks like what you were thinking about. Please feel free to change anything you want.

(Darlene) Petra, that is awesome!
(Meredih) I love it. We can definetly make changes through he next two weeks if we need to. It all works out so well. We can fill it all in and turn this in for today. THANKS again. I will be able to do more over the next two weeks. I will be gone again this Friday-Monday, but that is all.

Meredith...I just inserted all that I could into the assignment, I will e-mail it out. Please fill in and change anything. I did not know what to put on the deadlines. Who ever changes it, will ya'll send it back to me today? If someone else did this, I did not recieve it. Wanted to do more since I was gone last week. Thanks.

(Petra) Looks good, I am ready to turn in things for this week.

(Christy) I tried to put a copy on here for everyone, but when I got on my computer this morning I guess I sent it to my desktop because that is where it is. Petra, if you sent a copy to me I didn't get it. Will you resend. I want to make sure we all our on the same page. I will be taking my video tomorrow and I will email and we can see what we need to change.

Email addresses: DJones8740@aol.com petra718@aol.com iwsicnh@hotmail.commobannion@eanesisd.net

(Darlene) Please send it to me too! I don't have it either! Thanks!

(Petra) Here it is, I just fixed a few spelling mistakes, that is all.

EDLD 5363 Proposal Week 3.doc

Week 4:

(Petra) Hi guys, could we please try to organize ourselves for this week and divide the tasks like you had offered?

TIMELINE: Do you think this part could be done by Wednesday or Thursday so we can try to finish a little earlier. I know Meredith is going out of town again and I would like to go to Denton to see my two daughters in college.

Christy: Can you still take some of the scene shots of a pirate, your son and the other teenagers or whatever shots or stillpics you can.

Darlene: Can you take the other shots since you also have a camera like you offered? I can not find my firewire to transfer the videos to the computer.

Petra: I also will take some shots.

Yes Petra. Which shots do you want me to take? Christy, if you will email me or add to the bottom of this page, I will take some shots for us.

Meredith/Petra;
Meredith, you had said Movie Maker is now easy for you, maybe after they sent us all the clips you and I can try to put it together. I downloaded Ulead, so I can try with that too.

We will somehow also need to probably cut down the narration to only include the most important parts!!!
We also need some music. Any suggestions?

I made room on the "PSA Workspace" page, so we can all put our videos and shots and music etc. on it to share.

Please let me know if this sounds OK to you?

(Christy) This sounds great! My son is having friends over tomorrow I will just have him take some videos of them playing around with the laptop and cds. I will start looking for a pirate scene....does anyone mind if we use a digital pic if I can't find a pirate video? Music
suggestions....I will hunt around I am thinking something with a beat, lively almost....but when I used Movie Maker I could not get narration and music to play at the same time....maybe it was just me. We can do this ladies, it only has to 60 OR LESS! Remember its 60 seconds or less. I am thinking that around 45 minimum....what do y'all think?
(Meredith) Yes, Movie Maker is not hard for me now. I knew how to work it, but it kept shutting down on me when I was teaching it to my kids. I was able to do a narration and music on it too. IF we can get all the videos online where I can access then, I can edit the video all by Thursday before I leave. I just need all the video. Our biggest problem is going to be editing it, getting it out there for review and assesment and then getting comments back to me so I can change things. I cannot remember righ now, but we don't have to turn in the completed video this week, just any changes to our plan, right? I will go look. My husband has a BUNCH of music. I can find something that will fit. We will look and I can post some ideas so ya'll can pick the one you like. Petra, I like the way you broke up the duties above. I will look at the assingment later today and I will get back on and see what else needs to be done.
IF we give credit to Disney at the end of our video, can we use a few clips from a movie trailer of Pirates of the Caribbean? I found some video on You Tube. I can change it for Movie Maker. I just wanted to double check since we are not making money from the video, just using it for education, that is what I teach my kids, but wanted to make sure. I have it just in case we can use it.
Just double checked, we don't really have anything to turn in "officially". We have to do audacity, video, and update the proposal if we see fit, but it doesn't say anything about actually submitting anything. Am I wrong? I will find music and if we can get all the video on this wiki or
send to me in some other way, I will start editing it next week when I get back early in the week so we can all evaluate it and get it done before the end of the week. Is this what seems like what needs to be done?

(Petra) I do think we should admit what we have, it does just not have to be the final product. I love all of your ideas, they sound so great. Yes, we can do this! I have a really dumb question, what exactly do they mean by audacity? I downloaded the free version of Ulead, which was so easy to do, and the program does look also simple Meredith. Look at it and tell me if it may be easier than Movie Maker. I had problems with narration and music at at the same time as well.
By the way, I had a horrible highlight job done to my hair today. I could scream. I can not get it fixed until Thursday, so now I have to walk around with a cap!!!
(Meredith) Audacity is a music mixer program, but you can record voiceovers with it. Once it is done, it needs to be saved as a MP3 file so Movie Maker will be able to read it. It is normally used to mix music, I am not quite sure why we are using it to narrate. We can do voiceover in Movie Maker, but whatever. I have never used ULead, what is that? I guess we wait to see what Darlene and Christy say about the plan and go from there.
Sorry about your hair. At least it is summer. There are a lot of cute hats and visors out right now.
(Petra) OK, I feel stupid now after I started the weekly readings and they all are about audacity!!!! I guess that really was a dumb question.
(Meredith) It was not a dumb question. I had to ask this past year. I had never heard of it. When you don't use it, you don't know what it is. It's OK. It is pretty user friendly and it can be fun when you want to mix music. Its the cheapest,(I think it is free, but I could be wrong).

(Darlene) I will work on some shots Thursday as well as working on the audio. Christy, please let me know which ones I need to take. My computer has been on the fritz and I have been babying it. I am putting it in the shop Thursday morning and have been promised to have it back the same afternoon. I definately want to have everything finished by Sunday night so we can send it in Monday morning. I have to be in Dallas participating in the preparation for a memorial service Monday night at 7:00 p.m. I will not return home until Wednesday night, but I will have internet service at the hotel.I can be reached by email: DJones8740@aol.com or by cell phone 832-654-9827 at any time.

(Petra) I downloaded Audacity, and it is free. Let's decide on some music, any ideas anyone: If you have something, load it on the "webpages" page. What does pirate music even sound like, lol?
(Meredith) It sounds like we need to do the narration in Audacity, not the music. The music can just be put on the actual video. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe we can just use some Indian Jones type music. It will be low in the background anyway. I will work on it tomorrow and see what I can find. What exactly are we turning in for Monday? I am leaving town Friday morning and will not be back here until around midnight Monday. I need to really turn something in tomorrow. We just need an updated version of our assignment we turned in this past week? Can I make some updates, send it to ya'll and we just agree to turn that in for now? Do we have any shots taken at all? I guess I just need to know what needs to be done. I am not sure I will be able to get on a computer at the hotel. I am guessing there should be one in the lobby. I will check the Wiki and my e-mail if I can. Sorry, this is the last trip I am taking this summer. This time it is just the girls. Cannot wait. Will miss my hubby and daughter, but wow, 4 days with my girls...who could ask for more. PLEASE let me know what I can do to offer help for this week and I will get it done tomorrow. I will look for some music and post it on the Webpage link by tomorrow afternoon.

OK, check out the the webpage link for music ideas. I also sent all of you the updated version of our proposal. Make changes or suggestions, I might just turn in this one if I don't hear from ya'll tomorrow, just so I can have an assignment to turn in. Sorry.
(Petra) Meredith, have fun!!!!! If we change what you sent, I email it to you, so you can turn it in Monday night when you get back if you want to.
Darlene----could you maybe try to take the shots 5 to 9. I am so sorry that I do not have the capability to do that. Christy may have done shot #5. Check with her.

Week 4/5 Downloads:

(Petra) Here are some pictures of pirates, teenagers in handcuffs, just handcuffs, and other stuff to look at. They all came from flickr.com. Just some fillers, or for the beginning or end, or not at all.Maybe we can use one of the handcuff pics for the end scene. Darlene was not sure how to shot a scene like that. I don't have handcuffs handy either, lol.

Just a few ideas. Let me know and I can use any of these...we just need to give credit.

(Christy) I have been working on my video, I will post them in the morning and I also wanted to email everyone a copy. Could you please send me your email address to iwsicnh@hotmail.com. I have been trying to work on an opening credits scene. Its looking cheesy, but I think its getting better. I would have been finished today, but I had training and my car went to crap on me....been a day. How long should my video be? I have been playing around with 2- 10 second videos, but then we made 1 - 25 second video that showed him putting in a blank cd, turning on laptop, searching internet and picking songs from 2 different sites, then burning the songs, then taking cd out and writing downloads across the front of cd...........have training in the morning, then will send it out.
(Petra) The whole thing is supposed to be less then 60 seconds, yet have you heard much from Darlene? How long are her shots? I think if they are to long they get boring. I don't know, what do you guys think?
Christy, I put everyone's email address on the PSA page.

(Darlene) I am taking shots at Best Buy or Walmart today (Thur). I don't have children so will try to "borrow" some from school tomorrow so I can get shots of kids exchanging pirated cd's. My computer has been out of service. They reimaged it and I have lost EVERYTHING! #@&**(#!X%$!!! My shots will be 10 to 15 seconds.in length.

(Meredith) I think all the pictures above are GREAT. We will use any of them to fill the voids in the video. Which ever ones I use, I will make sure I give credit. I will just have to see which ones I use. Can everyone send me the pictures from above, any video you have, and anything else you would like me to use, to my e-mail? I am concerned I may not be able to get all this stuff off. This is going to be the tricky part. I will try when I get back to get them off. I will work on this all morning Tues and all evening, into the night. I want to get it done soon in the week so we can all evaluate it. It should not be hard. Yes, the whole thing needs to be less than 60 seconds(should not be too hard). I love all the shots ya'll are getting. I was concerned about the handcuffs too, my husband said he would go buy us some..I told him we didn't need them that bad. hahaha I think we are doing great. I did read today on the home page, from Daphene, that we must be blogging about how well we are working together and how production is going. Glad I read that. I said nothing but good things. :) Please text me if anyone has anything that needs immediate attention 512-787-3465, otherwise, I will check the wiki and my e-mail on a computer at the hotel(they should have one) if not, I will be back late Monday night and will work Tues. Have a great weekend.
Just wondering...who is doing the Audacity file? Isn't this to just be the narration? Let me know. I am not sure I can do all the editing and that too. I can see how this goes on Tues. It should not be too hard, but I don't want anything to go wrong with the Movie Maker and changing file formats and then be stressed to no end to get the Audacity done too. Thanks

(Christy) I found the following pictures. I like the skull and cross bones look for an ending.....last words could be "don't be a Pirate" or can we have the ending credits roll while the skull and cross bones is in the background? I will go and blog right now. I must admit to you ladies that I didn't quite understand how the wiki worked when we set it up in the original class. I like them incorporating previous activites. I really didn't think that I would ever use it! I have a really good 20 second video, but for some reason it is not uploading.....says its missing, but I can open it from laptop. I have used more computer functions that ever before with this class too....and my son has shown me many shortcuts....in fact I don't think he knows how to do stuff on the computer the long way. LOL
pirate2.jpgpirate1.jpgpirate3.jpgpirate4.jpg

(Darlene) I took 3 great shots today, but now my camera won't work! I looked up the troubleshooting section of the manual and found out the heads are corrupted! I will take it to the shop Saturday. May wind up buying a new one and reshooting. I will also do the narration in the Audacity program and upload it to this page on Saturday. At least I have my laptop in working order again. Ahh electronic gremlins...be gone!

(Petra) Meredith, I can sent you all the pics by email, that will not be a problem at all.
I love all the pics you found Christy. I love the way everything is coming together. I think it will be great when it is done. I wonder if we can copy and paste some of our communication from this wiki to the blog to show our communication. I remember reading on that too. I am going to check again. Merdith please let me know what else you need me to find.
Darlene, I am sorry about all your computer trouble. It can be such a pain when technology don't work. My own computer is on it's last leg, and I am itching to buy a new laptop.

(Christy) I found a GREAT site about downloading music....musicunited.org. I will start looking at Audacity right after this post. Petra, I would assume we can just copy and paste info from here to wiki. Somehow I think we should include the actual law about infringeing on copyright laws I found the following on musicunited.org:
If you make copies of copyrighted music recordings without the copyright holder’s permission, you are stealing music and that’s against the law.
It’s relatively easy for investigators to obtain the I.P. addresses of users who illegally distribute copyrighted music files especially if they’re distributing lots of them.
Under Federal law, first-time offenders who commit copyright violations that involve digital recordings can face criminal penalties of as much as five years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
I have also made this powerpoint page for the video I don't know if we can use it or if it will transfer properly, but maybe we could still use the information in contains. The page lists the law and consequences of copyright issues and I included the proper citation.

(Darlene) I will do the narration on Audacity Sunday afternoon. I will HOPEFULLY have some shots tomorrow. Looked for new camcorder today. No luck. Will look again tomorrow in a.m.

(Christy) Darlene, I have started working with Audacity for the narration, so you just worry about the shots. I heard back from Daphne and she said just submit an updated proposal and to make sure the blog reflects are interactions. We should be a to copy and paste from here to our blog. My 20 second video will not upload. I have an old camcorder that is not even computer friendly....that's how old it is and I truly don't have the need for a new one, so I can't see buying one for this course. I did send Petra 2- 10 second videos if the shots turned out. One , was my son downloading music, you could see Itunes in the background and I believe he was on Limewire for the 2 shot.

(Darlene) Okay Christy. I'll pass the narration to you. I worked with Audacity for another project. It wasn't too hard to work with. I did not have any luck with videoing at Best Buy or Target. They do not allow wideotaping inside the store. No one willing to come outside to "lose" their job either. I did get shots of a police storefront and another of some teens passing cd's back and forth. Anyone else have a camera to help with shots? I will upload what I have today on a new page.

(Petra) We can definitely change the narration and add the actual fines and all that. I tried to limit the narration. When I timed it, it was almost 2 minutes. I think we should probably leave the stuff at the end out with the recording industry of America. We can change it any which way we need to. Christie, I was able to open your two videos, I will try to put them on here in a minute, so we all can look at them. They are a little dark, but I think we can adjust with the video editor. I like them a lot. How do you guys load from the video camera to the computer? I do have a camera, just not the fire wire.

(Petra) Christie, here are your two video clips.
(Meredith) Who ever put the videos below here, I cannot open them. I need them e-mailed to me. They seem to be in Quick Time Pro, I don't have that and I don't want to buy it. If it is e-mailed to me, I can open them and convert them. THANKS!!

(Petra) Here is your video Darlene. I downloaded it. It worked.
MOV006.m4v

(Petra) I have a pretty good Canon camera (for pictures) that has a little video camera in it, do you think the quality would be OK? If so, I would be able to take some shots also. Please let me know about the narration. Tell me how many seconds to shorten it !!!! I can also do audacity if you guys do not mind my accent!

(Christy) I am going to try and put the other videos Darlene sent out. Also, do y'all think that we need to do the narration with the video at the same time. Are you guys going to just turn in Week 3 assignment as week 4, neither are graded, but still have to be turned in.

MOV00c.m4v
MOV00a.m4v

The above are Darlene's videos that she sent over email.
(Christy) Here is the narration, its still too long, but I wanted everyone to hear my voice and see if its ok. If we have the video set up we can re-word everything to fit the video. I have tried it a view different ways, but until its put to the video its hard to tell.

Messed up on a few words......
(Petra) It sounds really good, I like it...

(Petra) I went all over town (very small town) today to get some more videos on my picture camera. The first few came out ok, and I will try to put them on here, yet the better ones with movies and music from Wal-Mart and the movie store show the video really small in the middle. I will try to fix it.
(Petra) I stayed up late messing with these shots and could only load them up on You Tube. I guess since I took them on my pic camera. I never did this before and the last six shots look a little bit fuzzy, so let me know.

(Petra) Here are some more video clips I took at Best Buy. I put them all on on file in Movie Maker and uploaded them to You Tube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqVVC64UPmc

(Christy) I have worked on the narration some more. I have it down to about 56 seconds, but I will be able to adjust even more once we have the video set up. Does anyone know of anything else that needs to be done. Don't forget about blog posts, and I am going to put this link on my paper where it asks for urls, for communication purposes. Petra, I think the part of the narration about not stealing from a store is where we could include the shots at best buy....they were clear, maybe show the best buy sign, then a shot of the rows of movies and cds. I liked the way that looked. I keep forgetting how short 60 seconds is.....I keep thinking of things we could do, but really its very short. Let me know what needs to be done.

(Petra) Yes, I think I got the camera figured out at Best Buy. It felt strange filming there. I tried not to be seen.

(Petra) That sounds great. Meredith is going to work on putting she shots in the Movie Maker today. We want to all be done by Friday, so we can enjoy the 4th of July. I read in our assignment that we need to debrief as a team on our experience on this PSA as a team, so let's do this on here:

(Meredith) I am working on the editing. Trying to get everything converted to work on Movie Maker is a pain in the ear. I am working on it now. IF the conversion works, I should have the editing done by the end of the day. When I am done, I will figure out the easiest way to get it to ya'll. Once it is done, the audacity file and be done and we should be finished. I will keep everyone posted on here throughout the day. Great video, everyone.

OK, here is what is going on. I have the video edited and music added. I was going to post a finished version on YouTube for ya'll to check out. All I need to do now is get the Audacity file(in a Movie Maker friendly file format). I tried the wav file that Christy posted on the wiki and it works great in Movie Maker...but, it is 30 secs longer than the video. IF you have the narration done, could you please post the finished version on the wiki and I will put it in Movie Maker. Once this is done, we are done.
Thanks

IF any of you e-mail me anything, please e-mail it to
obannionm@yahoo.com
IF I don't get the narration tonight, tomorrow morning, my husband said he would record it, I will post it on YouTube and ya'll can tell me what ya'll think. Anyone opposed to that?
(Petra) sounds good to me, I am ready to get this done. I hope Christy will email it tonight to you.
(Christy) email has been sent with the narration. I cut it way down, but putting it with final video will help shorten it again. I included a copy of the revised narration. We will need to revise the proposal with that. I also, wanted to let everyone know this has been an experience. I REALLY do not believe I have ever used my computer more....I mean I have had MOVIE MAKER all along and didn't even know it. And Audacity was neat. Its hard to really learn a program in this short time, but it was easy enough to use and I like the way it saves projects. It transitions well.

narration2.wav
(Petra) It sounds great Christy!
(Darlene) I think it is VERY good! Great job Christy!

(Meredith) OK ladies, I do dare say...here is the link to the video. PLEASE tell me what you think and let me know what we need to change. I had to compress the narration and the music in Audacity, so I go to use Audacity anyway. haha

Anyway, I am not sure about the length. Anyone think we will get counted off? I think it turned out very well. Let me know and I will make changes. I I add transitions and effects, it throws off the narration and pictures and adds more time to it. 1 minute is hard to stay under. I have been at it for about 3 hours now. I am going to take a break. I will get back on later this afternoon. Email me obannionm@yahoo.com or just post here what you want me to change. Great job everyone.

Have a GREAT day.
(Petra) Meredith you did GREAT!!!!! It all came together well. I really like the two pics you found, the money and the newspaper add, they fit in there perfect. It feels good to be finished.
(Darlene) I think you did a wonderful job Meredith! I think you did a fabulous job of putting this together. I agree that MovieMaker hs its limitations, but it IS FREE! If we could afford Adobe I'm sure we could have more editing options, but what you've done is fantastic.Thank you for doing such a great job!

(Christy) I just don't know if I could have made a better video. IT'S GREAT!!!! excellent work. It conveys the proper message and looks great. You guys did a fabulous job. Kudos to all!!!!!

(Christy)....PLEASE HELP....I have done everything to try and download final PSA from youtube, but its not working. I can't seem to get it. Can someone please help me?

(Christy) ok nevermind, its amazing what frustration and then calming down will do for a person. I figured it out. I guess I just needed a break from everything! Thanks

(Darlene) Christy, Meredith, and Petra you did an outstanding job! The PSA looks great!
